Try to taste mind stage with NO WORLDLY THOUGHTS

 

 

It is generally taken that one cannot easily attain mind stage with no worldly thoughts. Worldly thoughts always occur, so one cannot get it easily. No. It is not a difficult thing to stop worldly thoughts.

 And this way can also be used to deal with distractions during meditation.

 

The principle and way to stop are next.

 

First. Thoughts, obsessive thoughts seem to be occurring by themselves, of themselves. But, in fact, thoughts are caused by intent (intent, semi-intent of mind). (You can never agree at once, I suppose.)

 

Secondly. Thoughts do not occur without cue. Thoughts occur and run about with cue that something comes in sight, something is heard, something is felt, (or, something touches five senses). Thoughts are caused by these cues, continuously and ceaselessly. (Thoughts never occur suddenly without cue. Thoughts necessarily have cue. Following association of thoughts backward, you can recognize it.)

 

Therefore, to stop thoughts, when various things continuously come in sight, are heard, are felt and so on, you intend not to be conscious of anything, not to think, not to begin to think. Just the moment you are going to think, if you do not begin thinking (if cues are nipped off ), thoughts can be quite stopped (actually, almost stopped).

 

Let me repeat

 

The essence is

 

1. Thoughts, obsessive thoughts, they are caused by intent ( intent to think is working ).

 

2. They are caused by cues of consciousness of something through five senses. They never occur without cues.

 

3. Therefore, when you get conscious of something through five senses, if you do not begin to think, you can let thoughts not occur.

      ( if continuously getα among what five senses perceive, continue each time ‘ don’t think’ ‘don’t think’ )

 

At first, nonα  is rather difficult, therefore, do effort<when αoccurs, nonβ>. While continuing nonβ, nonα get possible.

 

For a long time, doing nonβ,β get less, at the same time,  α get less.

 

I will write the way of practice

 

1. Follow backward association of thoughts that has continued till just now. Recognize what was the cue.

 

2. Repeat this many times. Recognize that there are necessarily cues.

 

    ~~ intent is working, at the time of capturing (getting conscious(aware) of) something ( as cue to begin to think ) among real phenomenons that five senses are feeling(perceiving), also at the time of beginning to think with the cue.  Then~~

 

3. When some phenomenon touches consciousness(awareness) (α), do not think(begin to think) (B). This is the point.

 

To say precisely

 

& at the time through five senses some phenomenon is going to touch consciousness (awareness) (α), do not get conscious(aware) of it ( A )

 

  and

 

if getting conscious(aware) of it (when missing being not conscious(aware) of it), do not think (begin to think) with the cue of what you have got conscious of (the phenomenon that you have got conscious of) ( B )

 

  to say precisely further

 

& at the time through five senses some phenomenon is going to touch intent ( intent to capture cue to begin to think ), do not have intent to get conscious(aware) of the phenomenon ( do not have consciousness to make the phenomenon cue to begin to think) ( A )

 

  and

 

if getting conscious(aware) of it (when missing being not conscious(aware) of it), do not have intent to think (begin to think) with the cue of what you have got conscious of (the phenomenon that you have got conscious of) ( B )

 

4. Phenomenons variously, continuously touch consciousness through five senses ( α,α,α,-----),each time  they touch, continue ‘ don’t think ’ ‘ don’t think ’ ‘ don’t think’ ( nonβ , nonβ, nonβ,----)  (even if nonα,nonα is rather difficult )

 

5. Then, thoughts, obsessive thoughts do not occur.

 

6. When you miss stopping beginning to think, association of thoughts occurs. To stop association, do not think thought that follows former thought.(non γ)

 

At the scene of ‘ thought ~ thought ~ thought ’, intent to think follows.

 

 intent to think ( ~ thought)   intent to think (~ thought)   intent to think (~ thought).

 

Former thought becomes cue of following thought.  From just the thought at the moment you intend to stop, do not think next thought (stop having intent to think next).

 

Practicing like this stop association.

 

7. Thoughts always directly causes emotion feelings (anger, anxiety, sadness,----). 

Emotion movements also can be let not occur by practicing of ‘ don’t think ’

 

8. This method, doing 'don't think ''don't begin thinking' at the cue ,seems not easy to practice. In such case, please try next.

  When troublesome thought occur, conntinue,  try saying in the head, 'don't think' 'don't think' 'don't think'.... , and intend not to think. do this untill thoughts  dissapear or decrease.

10. addition 1. Usual amounts of thoughts differs among persons. Too much thoughts often causes anxiety neurosis and so on.

 

  addition 2. If you practice stopping thoughts not only for a moment but also for a long time, the amount of thoughts that occur naturally will get less. Getting conscious through five senses will get less. You will get to let phenomenons  flow without getting conscious of.
